Kaiser State Health Facts
Statehealthfacts.org is a project of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation and is designed to provide free, up-to-date, and easy-to-use health data for all 50 states. Statehealthfacts.org provides data on more than 700 health topics and is linked to both the Kaiser Family Foundation website (www.kff.org) and Kaiser Health News (http://www.kaiserhealthnews.org/).

Commonwealth Fund State Report Card
This interactive U.S. map draws from The Commonwealth Fund State Scorecard, 2009. Use the map to view state-specific rankings and results compared to benchmarks, and to view the number of lives and dollars each state could save by achieving benchmark levels of performance. Use the tool on the right to select years, performance indicators, and states for comparison and then generate custom, downloadable tables and bar charts.
 

County Health Rankings

The County Health Rankings & Roadmaps program includes the County Health Rankings project, launched in 2010, and the newer County Health Roadmaps project that mobilizes local communities, national partners and leaders across all sectors to improve health. The Roadmaps project includes grants to local coalitions and partnerships among policymakers, business, education, public health, health care, and community organizations; grants to national organizations working to improve health; recognition of communities whose promising efforts have led to better health; and customized technical assistance on strategies to improve health.

The County Diabetes Health Calculator

The County Health Calculator is a tool for advocates and policy makers. Health is about more than healthcare. It is about education, income and the environment in which we live. Use the calculator to see how education and income affect health outcomes.

West Virginia Healthy People 2010

West Virginia Healthy People 2010
is the result of years of work by more than 300 people from both the public and private sectors.  The purpose of West Virginia Healthy People 2010 is to provide common goals and objectives, hopefully leading to increased collaboration and motivating individuals and organizations to action.
 

West Virginia Obesity, Facts, Figures and Guidelines
This report was issued under former Governor Bob Wise and outlines obesity statistics in terms of health and cost.  The report also provides a guideline by which state agencies are recommended to act to address the obesity epidemic. 

Report: Burden of Asthma in West Virginia
This report is the most comprehensive source of information about asthma in West Virginia. It is used by the Asthma Education and Prevention Program and the West Virginia Asthma Coalition to guide the planning and implementation of activities and interventions to address asthma in this state.

WV Diabetes Strategic Plan
The West Virginia Diabetes Strategic Plan was developed by a variety of health care professionals and community members interested in improving diabetes care. The rationale for developing the Diabetes Strategic Plan was to identify priority areas and select specific goals/objectives to decrease the burden of diabetes in West Virginia.

Report: Burden of Cardiovascular Disease in West Virginia
The burden of cardiovascular disease in West Virginia is being addressed in part by the West Virginia Cardiovascular Health Program located within the Bureau for Public Health.  This report provides both statistics relevant to West Virginia on this serious issue as well as goals outlined by the Bureau for Public Health on how to address this issue.


Report: Burden of Osteoporosis and Arthritis Program in West Virginia

The Osteoporosis & Arthritis Program has released its Strategic Plan 2008-2013, which outlines its goals for the next five years.  The report gives a background on both conditions in West Virginia, sets objectives, provides strategies and suggests ideas for integration with other public health agencies.

West Virginia Vital Statistics
This annual report provides statistical briefs on topics related to vital events, chronic disease, and health behavior. 

Tobacco is Killing and Costing Us
A report on tobacco use rates smoking-related deaths and smoking-related health care costs in West Virginia - released in June 2009.

West Virginia Women's Health Study
The West Virginia Health Statistics Center, Bureau for Public Health, has prepared a series of fact sheets on selected health concerns facing women in the state. The fact sheets presented in this document, 22 in all, cover a wide variety of health topics, from chronic diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease, to risk factors such as smoking and obesity, to sexually transmitted diseases and violence toward women.
